Cargill Council: Something for everybody
Faith – Family – Community – Youth - Fellowship
Welcome, Brother Knight, to Cargill Council 64, Knights of Columbus. We’re thrilled to have you here as part of our family. Please take a moment to look at what we’re planning to do in the next year.
Check off the activities that interest you:
Strong, continued leadership and support by our Knights for our two parishes – both St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam & Most Holy Trinity in Pomfret
What you do to help your parish helps us. Cargill Council is a ministry of both St. Mary Church of the Visitation and Most Holy Trinity parishes. We are “The Strong Right Arm of the Church.” Tell us what you’re doing or plan to do to help your parish. Maybe we can help you in your efforts.
Labor Day Weekend Charitable Fund-Raising Breakfast
Cooking, cleaning, setting up and selling tickets – plenty to do
Putnam-area Holiday Dazzle Light Parade in November, as part of our “Keep Christ in Christmas” program
Be in the parade. Help to set up St. Mary’s float.
Working for St. Mary Parish’s Annual Circle of Fun
Widows’ Relief Fund – helping the families of our Council’s deceased local Knights
We have a fund-raiser every year. We also have a committee to distribute the money.
Christmas Giving Appeal for local people in need
Raising money and helping deserving people
On-going Pro-Life work – defending the Culture of Life
Projects continue throughout the year.
Monthly Rosary recitation for the public
Showing your faith, helping to lead our monthly Rosary service for the public, including setting up the hall and posting flyers every month.
Memorials
Attending wakes and funerals for our Brother Knights and their families, and helping to maintain and decorate their graves, as needed
Annual party for members & their families
Lots to plan and lots to do…
Membership and Recruitment
Cargill Council always needs to recruit new members. We also need to keep the members we have. Help us to ask eligible Catholic men to become Knights. Help us to design and carry out recruitment programs.
Financial Management
All the money we raise, collect and spend needs to be handled properly. People with financial and accounting backgrounds are always needed.
We own a very nice, clean and well-lit Cargill Council building, which includes a social hall, bar and outdoor deck.
Our building and grounds always need to be looked after and improved. We’re running a year-round bar and hall rental business that must be overseen. Anyone who wants to help in any way is most welcome.
Christmas party for members’ children and grandchildren
This is always a popular event – featuring Santa Claus…
Helping Cargill’s Knights and their families in need
Including nursing home, hospital and home visits, sick calls and other assistance, as needed
Athletic programs for local boys & girls, including basketball free-throw & soccer
Anyone who wants to work with young people is encouraged to volunteer.
Year-round fund-raising programs for people with intellectual disabilities – our ongoing ‘Tootsie Roll Drive’
We’re the guys passing out Tootsie Rolls and collecting money for local programs.
Annual Mass for our deceased members, every March
Public Relations
Getting our message out to the public, dealing with the media, writing stories and taking pictures for newspapers; speaking on the radio
Co-Sponsor of the annual Quaddick Pond Turkey Dip for the Muscular Dystrophy Association
This is a cornerstone event for us. Getting sponsors and helping to run this event is a large and rewarding project.
Continued financial and moral support for local religious vocations
We’re sponsoring a Norwich diocesan seminarian and Cargill Council Knight who’s studying for the priesthood. This includes both an annual fund-raiser and regular contact with him, to help him in any way we can.
Essay contests and scholarship programs for local students
We have both a high school and a college scholarship program. We need organizers and contest judges.
Council anniversary Mass every July
Ceremonies
Initiations and other Knights of Columbus ceremonies have to be planned, rehearsed and carried out, throughout the year
Annual golf tournament
The Fourth Degree
You’ve seen the members of the K of C’s Patriotic Degree in their colorful capes and plumed hats, marching in parades and providing honor guards at events.
Cargill Council’s Members’ Website & hard-copy monthly Newsletter
People with writing, journalism, photography, design and computer skills are always needed.
Putnam Memorial Day Parade
The more Knights who march, the better.
